Malaria and Dengue are mosquito-borne infections that can cause severe illness if not detected and treated early. While Malaria is caused by Plasmodium parasites, Dengue is caused by the Dengue virus (DENV). Both diseases can lead to high fever, body pain, and complications such as organ failure in severe cases. At Savera, we specialize in evaluating and managing Malaria and Dengue with advanced testing, personalized treatment plans, and preventive care. Led by Dr. Meenu Vaid, we proudly serve the Morgan Hill and Bay Area communities with expert infectious disease care.

We emphasize early intervention, symptom relief, and preventive measures to ensure the best outcomes for our patients. Our clinic stays updated with the latest treatment protocols and vector control strategies to offer comprehensive care.

  • Anemia (in severe cases)
  • Jaundice (yellowing of the skin)
  • Seizures and coma (severe cases)

If you are experiencing severe symptoms such as high fever, difficulty breathing, confusion, or signs of sepsis, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room immediately.

  • High fever (104°F or higher)
  • Severe body aches and joint pain (“Breakbone fever”)

Recognizing early symptoms and seeking medical care can prevent severe complications such as severe Dengue (Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever) and Cerebral Malaria.

What to Expect: Your Malaria & Dengue Consultation

Your visit begins with a detailed review of your symptoms, recent travel history, and potential mosquito exposure. Dr. Vaid performs a clinical examination and determines the right diagnostic path.

If lab work is warranted, Dr. Vaid orders it through a trusted external laboratory. Tests she may order include:

  • Rapid diagnostic test (RDT) for malaria parasite detection
  • Blood smear to identify the specific malaria species
  • NS1 antigen test for early dengue detection
  • Dengue IgM/IgG antibody test to confirm or rule out dengue fever

Savera does not operate an in-house laboratory. All lab work is performed by our partner facilities, and Dr. Vaid personally reviews every result with you, explains what it means, and builds your treatment plan from there.

Frequently Asked Questions About Malaria and Dengue

Malaria is caused by a parasite transmitted by Anopheles mosquitoes, while Dengue is caused by a virus spread through Aedes mosquitoes. Both cause fever and body aches but require different treatments.

The RTS,S malaria vaccine is available in some regions. A Dengue vaccine (Dengvaxia) exists but is limited to those with previous infection.

Mild cases can be managed with hydration and fever control, but severe cases require hospitalization and close monitoring.

Use insect repellents, wear long-sleeved clothing, sleep under mosquito nets, and eliminate stagnant water sources to reduce mosquito breeding.
